Storm Boelo forces early abandonment of National League clash

Storm Boelo forces early abandonment of National League clash

Barrow's home fixture against Forest Green Rovers was called off after 14 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch caused by Storm Boelo.

A National League match between Barrow and Forest Green Rovers was abruptly halted on Saturday after just 14 minutes of play. The game, held at the Furness Building Society Stadium, was abandoned due to severe weather conditions brought on by Storm Boelo, which left the pitch completely waterlogged.

Despite the match being abandoned, Barrow had initially taken an early lead thanks to a goal from Isaac Marriott. Referee Stuart Morland had conducted several inspections prior to kick-off and initially deemed the surface playable, but conditions worsened significantly once the game commenced.

A frustrating day for travelling fans

Barrow AFC confirmed the abandonment in an official statement, expressing gratitude to both the ground staff who worked to prepare the pitch and the supporters who attended. The club noted that the fixture will need to be replayed in its entirety, with the scoreline reset to 0-0.

"Barrow AFC can confirm that this afternoon's Enterprise National League fixture against Forest Green Rovers was abandoned in the 14th minute due to adverse weather conditions at the Furness Building Society Stadium."

Forest Green Rovers acknowledged the disappointment for their fans, who had travelled approximately 150 miles for the match. The club expressed sympathy for those who made the long trip, wishing them a safe journey home as they now look toward future rescheduling.

Barrow currently sit 10th in the league standings, while Forest Green Rovers occupy 17th place. A new date for the fixture will be announced by the clubs in the near future.
