Liverpool secure Premier League win over Brighton at Anfield
Liverpool moved into the top four after a 2-0 victory against Brighton, with Alexander Isak scoring his sixth league goal of the season.
Liverpool climbed into the Premier League top four following a 2-0 victory against Brighton at Anfield on Sunday. The win marked the club's first league success at home since April, ending a five-match winless streak at their own stadium.
The scoring opened when a Florian Wirtz effort deflected off Pascal Gross for an own goal. Shortly after, Alexander Isak doubled the lead by converting a low cross from Bradley Barcola. Despite Brighton's attempts, including a strike against the post from Yasin Ayari, Liverpool held firm to secure the three points.
Tactical reflections from the managers
"The performance was really good against a really good team. The first half is what we want to be about."
Alexander Isak
"Everyone in the stadium saw that there was one team who really tried to create and try to win this game."
Fabian Hurzeler
The victory was tempered by an ankle injury to Florian Wirtz, who was forced to leave the pitch. Manager Andoni Iraola expressed hope that the issue is minor, though he noted the team's busy schedule requires careful monitoring. Liverpool now look ahead to an EFL Cup tie against Chelsea.
