Como make history with record-breaking 9-1 thrashing of Lens

Cesc Fabregas' side recorded the biggest away victory in Champions League history during a dominant night at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Como produced a performance for the ages on Wednesday night, dismantling Lens 9-1 at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis to secure the biggest away victory in the history of the Champions League. Cesc Fabregas’ side dominated from the opening whistle, with Tasos Douvikas leading the charge by netting a clinical hat-trick and providing an assist in a record-breaking display.
The visitors took just seven minutes to open the scoring when Maximo Perrone converted a header from Luis Milla's pass. While Lens had a penalty decision involving Maxence Caqueret overturned by VAR shortly after, their evening quickly spiraled. Douvikas added his second before the half-hour mark, and Nico Paz made it 3-0 before the interval after a swift counter-attack.

The second half saw no let-up as Lucas Da Cunha, Marc Oliver Kempf, and Douvikas again found the net to make it 6-0 before the hour. Substitute Mattia Liberali added a seventh, and although Ruben Aguilar grabbed a consolation volley for Lens past Jean Butez, the Italians finished strong. Martin Baturina and 18-year-old debutant Matteo Papaccioli completed the scoring in the final minutes.
A Night of Records
The scale of the victory is unprecedented in the modern era. Como’s eight-goal margin equals the all-time Champions League record held by Liverpool and Real Madrid, while they are the first team to score nine goals in an away European Cup fixture since 1971. Furthermore, they are only the second club ever to score nine goals in a single match in this competition, following Bayern Munich's feat in 2024.
Remarkably, 11 different Como players were involved in either a goal or an assist, setting a new competition record. This historic result continues a meteoric rise for the club, which competed in the Italian fourth tier just seven years ago. Under Fabregas, they are now challenging at the top of Serie A, sitting just five points behind league leaders Lazio, and making waves on the continental stage.
