Scott Parker Returns to West Ham: Former Captain Tasked with Championship Promotion

West Ham United have confirmed former midfielder Scott Parker as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year deal following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo.
West Ham United have officially turned to a familiar face to revive their season, confirming the appointment of Scott Parker as their new head coach. The former Hammers midfielder and captain has committed to a two-and-a-half-year contract at the club.
The 46-year-old arrives as the direct successor to Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed on Tuesday. Nuno’s departure followed a disappointing start to the Championship campaign, ending his 13-month tenure in East London.
Parker is widely regarded as a specialist in navigating the challenges of the second tier. He has successfully guided Fulham, Bournemouth, and Burnley to Premier League promotion in previous years. His most recent success came with Burnley in 2025, though he had been out of work since leaving them in April following their relegation.
A Homecoming for the Former Star
For Parker, this appointment represents a significant emotional return. He spent four productive years as a player at West Ham, winning the Hammer of the Year award three seasons in a row. He will be supported by a first-team coaching staff consisting of Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville, and Billy Lepine. Furthermore, he will work alongside sporting director Mark Noble, his former teammate.
"It is a very proud moment for me to return to a club that means so much to me."

"I feel privileged and honoured to be the guy that wants to lead us back to the Premier League."

The Hammers currently sit eighth in the Championship table, six points adrift of leaders Middlesbrough. Parker faces an immediate challenge, taking charge for the first time on Wednesday night for the trip to face Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium. The club has indicated that further backroom staff announcements will follow in the coming weeks.
