Chengdu Rongcheng suffer historic collapse to lose Chinese Super League title

Chengdu Rongcheng have surrendered a 12-point advantage, handing the Chinese Super League trophy to Dalian Yingbo after a disastrous final run.
Chengdu Rongcheng’s season ended in heartbreak as they squandered a commanding 12-point lead to lose the Chinese Super League title. Despite being in control for much of the campaign, John Aloisi’s side suffered four consecutive defeats in their final matches, picking up only a single point from their last five outings.
The title race concluded with both Chengdu and Dalian Yingbo finishing level on 52 points. However, Dalian secured the Li Guozu trophy thanks to a superior head-to-head record, bolstered by their victory over Chengdu in the penultimate round of the season.
A dramatic final day
Entering the final match, Chengdu needed only a draw to secure the championship. Their hopes were dashed early against Shandong Taishan, falling 2-0 behind within 25 minutes. Although Felipe Silva and Wellington Silva managed to narrow the deficit, the team failed to find the equalizer in a 3-2 defeat.
Meanwhile, Dalian Yingbo capitalized on the opportunity, defeating Tianjin Tiger 3-1 to complete a remarkable comeback. While the result cements Dalian's triumph, the collapse of Aloisi’s squad will be remembered as one of the most significant implosions in the history of the sport.
