Aston Villa frustrated by Fulham in 1-1 draw at Villa Park

A late own goal from goalkeeper Zion Suzuki denied Unai Emery's side victory after Nicolas Jackson had opened the scoring.
Aston Villa were forced to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Fulham on Saturday, as a second-half error from goalkeeper Zion Suzuki proved decisive at Villa Park.
The hosts looked set to secure all three points after Nicolas Jackson continued his impressive scoring streak, netting his sixth goal of the month in the 39th minute. Jackson had capitalized on a pass from Johan Manzambi to slot the ball past Bernd Leno, providing Unai Emery's men with a deserved advantage.
Missed opportunities and a costly fumble
The match could have taken a different turn earlier in the first half when Villa were awarded a penalty following a handball by Sander Berge. However, captain John McGinn saw his effort strike the crossbar, keeping the score level at the time.
Fulham remained resilient and found their breakthrough in the 64th minute. After an inswinging corner from Alex Iwobi, Suzuki fumbled the ball and inadvertently carried it over his own goal line. Despite late pressure from the home side, including two headers from Pau Torres, Villa were unable to find a winner.
The result leaves Aston Villa in ninth place, while Alvaro Arbeloa’s Fulham side will be pleased to return to London with a hard-earned point.
