Sir Alex Ferguson shares emotional retirement memories and secret Pep Guardiola dinner

Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson reflects on his emotional Manchester United exit and a missed opportunity to recruit Pep Guardiola in his new book.
Sir Alex Ferguson has provided a candid look into his final days at Manchester United in his new book, 'Games of My Life'. The legendary manager reveals that after informing his staff and players of his decision to retire in 2013, he retreated to his office and broke down in tears, realizing his long tenure had finally come to an end.
A missed opportunity with Pep Guardiola
The book also touches upon a 2012 dinner in New York with Pep Guardiola. Ferguson admits he wishes the meeting had occurred earlier, as he would have attempted to convince the Spaniard to take the reins at Old Trafford. At the time, Guardiola was already committed to joining Bayern Munich.
"If I could rewind time, we would have dined some months earlier, I would have poured plenty of Tignanello and I would have tried my hardest to convince him that his future lay in Manchester."

Ferguson, now 84, also reflects on his mortality following his recovery from a brain haemorrhage in 2018 and the passing of his wife, Lady Cathy. While he admits death occasionally crosses his mind, he remains focused on living life to the fullest and hopes to witness the opening of the club's proposed new stadium.
