Rooney and Shearer blast Fernandes and Martinez for lack of accountability

Manchester United are currently navigating their most difficult start to a season in four decades, having managed only two victories in their opening 11 fixtures. Amidst this turmoil, club icons Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer have directed sharp criticism toward Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez, accusing the pair of avoiding personal responsibility while publicly questioning the club's management.

A failure to take ownership

The tension follows recent incidents where Lisandro Martinez voiced frustrations regarding the club's summer transfer strategy, and captain Bruno Fernandes publicly challenged the tactical choices made by manager Carrick following a heavy 4-1 defeat to Como. Both legends argue that such public dissent is counterproductive, especially given the team's underwhelming form.

"Guys, can you please do your job first? Because in last night's game, I didn't see much effort from Bruno, nor much commitment, nor much running from him."

Wayne Rooney echoed these sentiments, suggesting that the players are focusing on others rather than their own performance. He emphasized that the squad needs to look inward, noting that shifting blame onto the coaching staff only serves to heighten internal pressure.

"These players are selfish. They don't care about their teammates, the manager, the staff, or the fans."

Shearer further noted that as captain, Fernandes holds a specific duty to lead by example. He suggested that instead of undermining Carrick, the midfielder should have accepted collective responsibility for the team's struggles. Both former stars agree that until these players improve their own output, their public complaints will continue to alienate supporters and destabilize the dressing room.
