Ronaldo faces suspension as Al Nassr eyes new ownership phase

Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day ban by the Portuguese FA, while reports suggest a potential ownership stake for him at Al Nassr.
The Portuguese Football Federation has issued a 30-day suspension and a 255-euro fine to Cristiano Ronaldo following his decision to abandon national team training. The disciplinary committee ruled that the veteran forward failed to meet the standards required of a captain, noting that his departure on the eve of a match caused significant negative media attention.
Despite the ruling, the federation acknowledged Ronaldo’s immense contribution to the sport, citing his global influence and role as a symbol for Portugal. The committee noted his unique career trajectory, including his time at Sporting CP, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus, as mitigating factors in their final verdict.
A potential new role in Saudi Arabia
While dealing with his national team suspension, Ronaldo’s club future is also evolving. According to media reports, the American investment firm RedBird Capital is in early negotiations with the Saudi Public Investment Fund to acquire a 70% stake in Al Nassr.
The potential deal could see the Portuguese star transition into a co-owner, with reports suggesting he may retain a 20% stake in the club. While talks are in the preliminary stages, this move would mark a significant shift in his relationship with the Saudi side, moving beyond his current role as team captain.
"I decided to leave the training camp and will tell the Portuguese people the truth about my departure at the appropriate time."
