Mourinho Slams 'Ridiculous' Mbappé Criticism as Star Returns to Real Madrid Lineup

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has launched a passionate defense of Kylian Mbappé, dismissing recent media scrutiny as "ridiculous." The French forward faced criticism during the international break after being spotted at a fashion event and cycling in Switzerland while recovering from an injury sustained against Turkey in late September.

Addressing the press ahead of the clash with Villarreal, Mourinho clarified that the striker had followed all club protocols. He explained that the bicycle usage was merely for short trips within a hotel complex and emphasized that the player’s behavior has been exemplary. The coach confirmed that Mbappé is fully fit and will be in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game.

"If Mbappe plays tomorrow, it's because he hasn't failed Real Madrid and he hasn't failed to fulfil his obligations."

Tactical Reshuffle at the Bernabéu

Beyond the individual controversy, Mourinho and his staff have utilized the break to address structural issues within the squad. Real Madrid currently sits six points behind league leaders Barcelona, prompting a tactical "reset." The coaching staff is reportedly focusing on two key areas: helping Vinícius Júnior rediscover his form and stabilizing a midfield that has seen frequent rotations.

While Vinícius has struggled for goals recently, Mourinho’s confidence in the Brazilian remains high. The manager is looking at ways to reduce the winger's defensive workload to allow him more freedom in attack. Meanwhile, the search for a consistent midfield pairing continues, with Federico Valverde remaining the only "untouchable" presence in the center of the pitch.

"When it comes to Real Madrid, it's always different. But all the players did exactly what they were supposed to."

The return of a fit Mbappé is seen as a crucial boost for a side looking to close the gap at the top of the table. Despite his impressive goal-scoring record last season, the forward is still searching for his first major trophy in Spain, and Mourinho is adamant that the external noise will not distract the team from their objectives.
