Milan edge past Atalanta in dramatic 3-2 victory

AC Milan maintained their unbeaten start to the Serie A season by surviving a late Atalanta fightback at the San Siro.
AC Milan extended their unbeaten start to the current Serie A campaign to seven matches, though they were forced to endure a tense finish in a 3-2 victory over Atalanta at the San Siro. Ruben Amorim’s side looked set for a comfortable afternoon after taking a commanding lead, but the visitors staged a late surge that kept the home crowd on edge.
A game of two halves
The Rossoneri established control before the break through Gonçalo Ramos, who converted a penalty after a handball by Relja Obric, and a clinical finish from Adrien Rabiot. Mario Gila extended the advantage to 3-0 in the second half, heading in from a Luka Modric corner shortly after Ramos had seen a second penalty saved by Marco Carnesecchi.
Atalanta refused to fold, with Gianluca Gaetano finding the net in the 66th minute. As the match neared its conclusion, Nikola Krstovic struck to reduce the deficit to a single goal. Mike Maignan was required to make a crucial late save from Davide Zappacosta to ensure Milan secured their first league win against Atalanta since February 2023.
The result marks a significant milestone for Amorim, as his team finally ended a six-match winless streak against their rivals. Milan currently remain unbeaten in their opening seven league fixtures, building on the momentum established during their impressive run earlier this year.
