Manchester City face potential ownership overhaul following financial charges

The Independent Football Regulator claims it has the power to force a sale of Manchester City following significant financial breaches.
Manchester City are under intense scrutiny after being found guilty of 114 financial charges by an independent commission. The club, which has lodged an appeal, was accused of inflating revenue by £900 million through improper contracts between 2009 and 2018.
Regulatory Authority
David Kogan, chair of the newly formed Independent Football Regulator (IFR), confirmed the body holds significant authority over club leadership. While Kogan noted it is too early to preempt potential investigations, he emphasized that the regulator maintains the power to mandate a change in ownership if a club is not managed with propriety.
"We've got absolute power to do so."

Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has publicly advocated for severe sanctions, suggesting that the most appropriate consequence for the club's financial doping would be the removal of its current owners. Kogan has pledged to resign if any future investigation into the matter faces political interference, citing concerns over potential diplomatic friction between the UK and the UAE.
"The only punishment that would be fair would be have huge consequences - the biggest consequence - would be removing the owners."
