Manchester City Bolster Legal Team Amid Financial Regulation Appeals

Manchester City Bolster Legal Team Amid Financial Regulation Appeals

Manchester City have hired high-profile barrister Mark Howard KC to assist in their appeal against charges of financial regulation breaches between 2009 and 2018.

Manchester City are doubling down on their legal defense as they contest findings related to 114 breaches of Premier League financial regulations occurring between 2009 and 2018. The club has officially lodged an appeal, maintaining their innocence while assembling a formidable team of legal experts to challenge the verdict.

The latest addition to their counsel is Mark Howard KC, a highly regarded barrister known for handling complex commercial litigation. Howard, who has previously represented high-profile clients, joins a team that already includes David Pannick, Paul Harris, and Philip Marshall.

Calls for severe sanctions

While the legal process continues, former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard has publicly suggested that the club should face significant consequences if the appeal is unsuccessful. He argued that simple fines are insufficient and that the integrity of the league must be protected through more substantial measures.

"Multi-year punishments, that would be my opinion. I’m not saying that’s the right opinion, but that’s just how I feel sitting here in this chair."

The ongoing situation has sparked debate across the sport, with some reports suggesting discussions have taken place regarding potential expulsion from the top flight, though such a scenario remains highly unlikely given the lack of consensus among member clubs. For now, the focus remains on the lengthy appeals process.
