Juventus held to 2-2 draw by stubborn Rennes in Europa League

Juventus' perfect Europa League start ended with a 2-2 draw against Rennes, despite Nick Woltemade scoring in his third consecutive European match.
Juventus saw their perfect start to the UEFA Europa League campaign come to an end on Thursday following a hard-fought 2-2 draw against a resilient Stade Rennais side in Turin.
The Bianconeri opened the scoring just five minutes into the contest when Zeki Çelik converted a precise throughball from Nick Woltemade. Rennes responded quickly, however, with Mousa Al-Tamari leveling the score ten minutes later. Just before halftime, the visitors took the lead through a Boulaye Dia penalty after Douglas Luiz was penalized for a handball inside the box.
Woltemade continues scoring streak
Juventus fought back in the second half, earning a penalty of their own in the 66th minute when Bryan Reynolds was adjudged to have handled the ball. Woltemade calmly dispatched the spot-kick, marking his third goal in as many Europa League appearances for his new club.
Late drama saw substitute Jhon Lucumi net what appeared to be a winner for the hosts, but a lengthy VAR review ruled the goal out for offside. Despite the stalemate, Luciano Spalletti’s side remains unbeaten in the competition after previously securing victories over NEC and Celta Vigo.
