Facundo Bernal receives four-game ban for headbutting Lamine Yamal

The Spanish Football Federation has suspended Real Betis player Facundo Bernal for four matches following an incident involving Barcelona's Lamine Yamal.
Real Betis midfielder Facundo Bernal has been hit with a four-match suspension by the Spanish Football Federation. The disciplinary action follows a heated confrontation during the LaLiga match against Barcelona on October 17, 2024, where Bernal was sent off for aggressive conduct.
Disciplinary Committee rejects appeal
The referee's match report detailed that Bernal grabbed his opponent's neck and delivered two consecutive headbutts while the ball was out of play. Although Real Betis attempted to appeal the decision by claiming a clear objective error and citing potential provocation, the Disciplinary Committee found the evidence conclusive.
The committee reviewed video footage confirming the assault and determined that the incident fell under Article 103.1 of the Disciplinary Code. Consequently, the club's request to revoke the red card was denied, and the minimum penalty of a four-match ban was upheld.
In addition to Bernal's suspension, the club's official Manuel Fajardo Mateo was banned for two matches for conduct contrary to sporting order. Meanwhile, coach Pellegrini received a caution for his reactions toward the officiating crew during the encounter.
