Jackson Double Ends Man City’s Perfect Start as Villa Triumph

Nicolas Jackson scored twice at Villa Park to hand Manchester City their first Premier League defeat of the season in a 2-1 victory for Aston Villa.

Aston Villa produced a statement performance at Villa Park to end Manchester City’s flawless start to the Premier League season. A brace from Nicolas Jackson ensured a 2-1 victory for Unai Emery’s side, moving them up to sixth in the table and denying the visitors a chance to break the record for the best-ever start to a campaign.

The hosts wasted no time in making their mark. Just six minutes into the match, John McGinn capitalized on an error by Marc Guehi to find Nicolas Jackson. The striker showed great composure to bypass Elliot Anderson before firing a powerful effort into the roof of Gianluigi Donnarumma’s net.

Haaland Response Not Enough

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca looked to change the momentum at half-time by introducing Phil Foden and Rico Lewis. The adjustments initially paid off when Erling Haaland rose highest to meet Iliman Ndiaye’s cross in the 52nd minute, heading home a deserved equalizer for the league leaders.

However, the parity lasted only eight minutes. Ibrahim Mbaye, who had just entered the pitch as a substitute, made an immediate impact by delivering a precise low cross. Jackson was on hand to stroke home his second of the afternoon, marking his seventh goal in eleven appearances for the club.

City pushed hard for a late leveler, but Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki was in inspired form. The Japanese international produced a series of vital stops, including a fingertip save to deny Josko Gvardiol, while Ian Maatsen provided a crucial late clearance to keep the lead intact.

"It was incredible, we got the win which is the most important thing."

The defeat marks the first time City have dropped points this season, ending a winning streak that had many tipping them to surpass Chelsea's historic nine-game opening run. For Villa, the result continues an impressive revival and maintains their strong recent home record against the Manchester side.

"Frustrating, felt like we fought a lot. First 10-15 minutes of the first half we took our time."
