Arsenal pays tribute to legendary life president Ken Friar

Arsenal announces the passing of life president Ken Friar, who dedicated 70 years of service to the club.
Arsenal is mourning the loss of life president Ken Friar, who has passed away at the age of 92. Friar enjoyed a remarkable 70-year association with the Gunners, rising from a young office runner to become a pivotal figure in the club's history, eventually serving as managing director and later as life president from 2020.
A lifetime of service
The Islington-born legend famously began his journey at the club in 1945 after accidentally kicking a ball under the car of then-manager George Allison. This chance encounter led to a lifelong career that included overseeing the club's historic transition from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium. His legacy is permanently marked at the stadium by a bridge and statue in his honor.
"No one has had an influence on Arsenal Football Club quite like 'Mr Friar' and he leaves an extraordinary life of service."
Arsenal FC
Throughout his tenure, Friar witnessed 11 title wins, including the club's recent Premier League triumph this past May. Beyond his administrative achievements, he was highly regarded for his character and dedication to the club, staff, and his family. The club noted that he will be remembered by everyone from players he helped guide through contracts to local council members who worked with him over the decades.
